“Renaissance”- Yenepoya University’s annual cultural fest was organised from 18th May to 21st May 2017. Inspired by the cultural movement in Italy that marked the beginning of the early modern age, this fest is organised every year to explore new ideas in art and science, learn and embrace our culture, recognize the talents of the students and the staff, provide a platform for creative pursuit and to have a blast! This year, the sub theme for Renaissance was “Rang”. Staying true to the theme, The fest was vibrant, vivacious and a brilliant combination of fun and glamour.
The mood was set for the fest with promotional events with beautiful display of colours and celebrated all the major festivities of our country in all its spirit of brotherhood. The events had the Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University as chief guest. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Registrar, Assistant Registrar,Finance Officer, Principals of Medical, Dental and Nursing college. The inauguration ceremony was done in the true festive spirit of Makahan handi by our Honourable Vice Chancellor. This was followed by a sequence of vibrant dances and performances. The energised and eager crowd also witnessed special performances by the staff of both Dental and Medical colleges. Towards the end of the promotional event our college witnessed the traditional Chenda mela performed by professionals as a part of Puram celebrations.
Events ranged from creative ones such as Collage making and face painting competition to ones in more academic in nature such as quizzes and Debate competition to cultural ones such as singing, Antakshari and dance competitions to newer and more creative variants of typical cultural events such as Acapella and Terribly Tiny Tales, to fun events such as Mock Press, Potpurri and Movie adaption. From Dandiya to Mime to variety events, Renaissance 2017 celebrated different variants of culture extensively.
The final day of Renaissance was definitely the cherry on top. The day kick started with the singing events for students. The event saw all the talented musicians and singers of the university display their impeccable talent to our judges. One of the highlights of the fest was the fashion show. It was one of the most well received events of the fest. It consisted of two rounds – comic con and a traditional round. Our ever supportive staff from both dental and medical colleges put up a very entertaining show. Next we had the students team competing against each other for the top positions.
