Yenepoya Dental College witnessed the celebration of its Silver Jubilee year on 24th July 2017. Based on the theme “Yenstellar”, the celebrations were indeed out of the world.
The Yendurance zone was decorated with constellations projector, tea light candles and was bubbling with the alumnis animated chatter and excited laughter. The programme was held under the presidentship of Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, the Honourable Chancellor of Yenepoya University. Dr. P. Mohammed Ali, Chairman, MFAR Group, was the chief guest. Dr Anil D’ Cruz, Director, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai was the Guest of Honour. Along with these luminaries the dais was graced with the presence of the strong team that was part of the Yenepoya story from its inception to its essential growth period: Dr. Akhter Hussain, Secretary of Islamic Academy of Education Trust, Dr. B.H Shripathi Rao, Dean of Yenepoya Dental College, Dr M Vijayakumar, Vice Chancellor Yenepoya University, Dr Shreekumar Menon, the Registrar, Dr C P Habeeb Rehman , Trustee- IAE, Mr Khalid Bawa, Trustee- IAE, Dr Vedprakash Misra, Member- BOM and Dr Sham S Bhat, Vice Principal, YDC.
After the recitation and invocation by Dr Ahmed Shafi, student from the first batch with the first roll call number, the Principal of YDC, Dr Sripathi Rao, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the significance of the celebration. Dr Akhter Husain took the crowd back in time to tell the story of the inception of YDC, the opportunities and challenges that were a part of the process and the journey so far. Dr Hasan Sarfaraz gave brief details of the activities conducted as a part of the silver jubilee celebrations. The Chief Guest, Dr P. Mohammed Ali then addressed the gathering. Patrons and pioneers of the institute Prof. Dr. N Shridhar Shetty, Dr. Thomas C Thelly, former founder principal of YDC, Dr. B.H Shripathi Rao -Dean YDC, Dr. Akhter Hussain, Secretary of IAE , Dr. B.R R Verma , Former HOD of Periodontology YDC – were felicitated by Honourable Chancellor for their contribution . This was followed by the the Guest of Honour, Dr Anil D’Cruz addressing the gathering.
The non- teaching and support staff of YDC were honoured by the Chancellor. Dr Vedprakash Mishra released the silver jubilee issue of Iqra and the souvenir. Representatives of the alumni from the first batch to the most recent batch, came up to the stage and reminisced about their good times in college and were in awe of how much the institute had developed over the years. Dr M VijayaKumar, the Honourable Vice Chancellor then addressed the gathering. This was succeeded with the presentation of mementos by the the Honourable Chancellor Mr Y Abdulla Kunhi. The last speech of the day was given by the man of the hour himself: Chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi. He spoke of the extraordinary journey and acknowledged the contributions of the patrons. Addressing the alumni he said, “When we look at our alumni,we realize how many lives we have touched…and how far we have reached. In our quest to fulfill one dream, we were blessed with the good fortune of shaping the dreams of many others.”, The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Shreekumar Menon, the Registrar of Yenepoya University. The celebrations continued that night at the City beach with a dinner party hosted for the alumni and staff.
